Hobart and flushing toilets

A beautiful 31 degrees Celsius today in Hobart.

After a speedy pack-up at Friendly Beaches (2 hours), where our good friend the Wallaby visited us for a third time beside our car, we were on the road again to Cambridge; 18km from Hobart CBD and the Location of the Hobart International Airport.

When found a point on the road where Mum had phone reception, she called a series of Big 4 holiday parks until we found a vacancy at a park next door to the airport, close to the airport’s hotel. By 1 o’clock we were in Cambridge, had set up our tent, showered, put on a couple of loads of washing and were now preparing lunch in the camp kitchen of the park. Yep, showers, flushing toilets, running water and a kitchen! Although the site is small and we’re next to an airport, we’re not here for the park’s views, we’re here just to sleep and shower for four days before heading once more into the unknown. I think its a pretty sweet deal :).

Following lunch and hanging out the washing it was off to Hobart. I can’t help but feel the airport in Cambridge looks a lot like the one in Essendon (by the fields at least. I haven’t seen the front of either airport). Similarly the suburbia leading up to Hobart reminds me of Strathmore where the city itself, I have been told is reminiscent of Adelaide with the one way roads of Sydney.

Although the water body around Hobart is massive. That is one thing in Tasmania that you don’t really see a lot of in Victoria – massive bodies of water.

On arrival to Hobart we found a cafe adjoining a museum/art gallery where mum and dad had their coffees, I had a milkshake and the three boys had some icecream. Yum.

We then proceeded through the museum/gallery, and took some pretty awesome photos. By 5 o’clock we were outside looking at all the Sydney- to- Hobart race yachts that had arrived. We even watched one as it arrived, although I cannot remember its name.

We ate dinner at Mures and then walked our way to the Village Cinemas on Collins street to continue our new years eve tradition and watch a movie. We watched ‘Little Fockers’ which was a great lauch for the whole family. It was back to the marina after that to watch the family fireworks at 9:30.

All in all a pretty awesome new year’s eve I’d say.

I’ll tell you this though, even though Tasmania feels a bit like a quiet Victoria with less multiculturalism, I bet my 31 degrees with a nice sea breeze was better than Melbourne’s heat hitting 40. Hope everyone stayed sufficiently hydrated and your 2010 went out with a bang.
