Celebrity wrap-up 2011

We may have kissed 2011 goodbye, but like any good soap opera, the world of celebrity gossip has left us with some cliffhangers. Here are the stories that the past year has started and a look ahead to where they may go.

2011 started with anticipation, in the lead up to the Royal wedding, with Kate and William tying the knot on their almost six year relationship. Although not strictly Hollywood, it certainly caught the world’s attention, spiralling the couple to a heightened celebrity status beyond the Commonwealth. We’ve already started hearing pregnancy rumours so we can certainly expect more of these this year, as well as continued coverage on the couple’s activities in the lead up to this year’s London Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Back over in Tinseltown, 2011 saw the engagements of Aerosmith rocker, Steven Tyler to long time girlfriend Erin Brady, NBA legend Michael Jordan to his girlfriend of three years, model Yvette Prieto, as well as Matthew McConaughey to his model girlfriend and mother of his children, Camilla Alves. We also saw the engagements of Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman, and Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman – and let’s not forget Britney Spears who also became engaged to Jason Trawick in December.

With every engagement, we expect a marriage, or with celebrities, the hint of cold feet, so this year we’ll probably start going through wedding plans, seeing exclusive photos of weddings that happen this year and speculation of whether or not the couple will make it to the aisle. For Tyler, Jordan, Barrymore and Spears, this isn’t the first time they’ve taken the plunge so we can expect comparisons with previous engagements.

From happy couples to bitter separation, 2011 saw the end of relationships from Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore to Russel Brand and Katy Perry, as well as the very short-lived marriages of Sinead O’Connor and Barry Herridge, and Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. This year we’ll start seeing divorce papers being finalised and the couples opening up about their heartbreaks, as well as a keen watch on any potential new love interests.

But it wasn’t all bad news, because Beyoncé and Jay-Z announced their pregnancy in 2011 and the first week of this New Year has brought us their baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter. We also had the pregnancy announcements of Jennifer Garner, January Jones, Victoria Beckham, Marion Coultiard and Jessica Alba. All but one of these names had their babies in 2011 – we should be hearing the announcement of the birth of Jennifer Garner’s third child very soon.

In 2012 we can expect more photos of these children as they are taken out in public more and more, as well as commentary around the cute little outfits their parents dress them up in – here’s looking at you Harper Seven and Victoria Beckham.

In the case of January Jones and her baby boy Xander, the mystery of who is the daddy still looms, so we can expect more updates on that as well.

Whatever 2012 holds, one thing is for sure – Hollywood gossip is one soap opera that will never be cancelled.
